A total of 9 individuals have been arrested on account of forcibly entering the premises of Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) this morning (Aug 08).

According to Ada Derana correspondent, 8 men and one woman were taken into custody by the police officers.

A group of members of the Joint Association of Leasing and Debt Instalment Payers had forcibly entered the Central Bank premises earlier and proceeded to stage a demonstration while sitting on the ground.

The CBSL security officers and the police personnel had made a joint effort to disperse the protesters who vowed to initiate a continuous Satyagraha campaign there.

A tense situation ensued as the police officers attempted to place the protesting leasing and debt payers under arrest.

The arrestees have been taken to the Colombo Fort and Kompannaveediya police stations for onward legal proceedings.
