A fire broke out in a chemical storage facility in the Homagama Industrial Zone at around 8.30 p.m. today (Aug. 17), Ada Derana reporter said.

Seven fire trucks from Kotte and Horana fire departments have been dispatched to the scene to douse the flames at the chemical factory.

In addition, a special team of Sri Lanka Army personnel has also been dispatched to assist in the fire extinguishing efforts.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre has advised the residents of Homagama to wear face masks to avoid smoke inhalation. Inhaling harmful smoke can inflame lungs and airways, causing them to swell and block oxygen.

UPDATE (7:10 AM, AUG. 18): The fire that erupted at a chemical storage facility in the Homagama Industrial Zone has been doused completely.

According to Ada Derana correspondent, a paint manufacturing facility and a textile factory were gutted in the fire.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
