The Supreme Court has granted time for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to file objections in relation to a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed challenging the decision taken by him during his tenure as the president to impose emergency regulations throughout the island during the ‘Aragalaya’ movement.

Accordingly, the former president was ordered to file the relevant objections, if any, within a period of eight weeks starting from today.

The order was issued by the Supreme Court when the relevant FR petition was taken up before the courts this morning (Oct. 05).
