Suspect injured in police fire during arrest in Point Pedro

Police officers have opened fire while attempting to apprehend a suspect in relation to several crimes after he had grappled with policemen who were attempting to arrest him in the Alwai area of Point Pedro, Jaffna this afternoon (09).

The 27-year-old suspect, who was injured in the shooting, has then been arrested by the police officers and subsequently admitted to Point Pedro Hospital for treatment, police said.

However, the arrested suspect was later transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

He is reportedly suspected to have been involved in several crimes in the Jaffna area including sword attacks and thefts, while he allegedly has several pending arrest warrants against him.

Point Pedro Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
