Former IP killed in shooting at Rathgama

One person has sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place in the Rathgama area in Galle.

Rathgama Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.


UPDATE: 

The individual who was wounded in the shooting incident that took place this evening (09) in the Rathgama area in Galle District has succumbed to injuries, Ada Derana reporter said.

He has been identified as a former Inspector of Police (IP), according to the reporter.

It is also reported that the victim had formerly served as the Inspector of the Ambalangoda Police Crimes Unit.

The 47-year-old former police officer was traveling on a motorcycle along with his elder brother when two unidentified gunmen who had arrived on a motorcycle had opened fire at the victim near the Karagoda Junction before speeding off.

The former Police Inspector had succumbed to injuries shortly while his brother is being treated at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
