Heavy rainfall of about 100mm likely in many areas today

Showers or thundershowers will occur in parts of many provinces after 1.00 p.m., the Department of Meteorology says.
Heavy showers of about 100mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
A few showers may occur in Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern provinces during the morning too.
Misty Condition can be expected at some places in Uva province and in Ampara district during the morning.
The members of the public are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Kankesanturai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee, and from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle and Matara.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be North-Easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
