The Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has taken custody of property worth nearly Rs. 100 million belonging to a suspect who is currently detained in the Boossa Prison on charges of drug trafficking, suspected to have been obtained using illicit funds collected through drug trafficking.
The CID stated that since the owner of the relevant house failed to disclose the manner in which the property was acquired during the investigation conducted based on information received, the woman in question was also arrested.
Accordingly, a two-storey house located in the Munawalewatta area of Kahathuduwa, a luxury car, two plots of land and a three-storey building located in Kiriwaththuduwa were taken into custody, according to the CID.
Police revealed that it was uncovered that the inmate, who is believed to be the owner of the relevant properties, had been serving in the army before being suspended due to a disciplinary issue. Later, he has smuggled drugs while working as a mason and acquired these properties within a short period of time.
