Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena emphasized that the Ministry of Finance has released the funds required to make the payments of retirement gratuity.

In response to a question raised by a parliamentarian during today’s (Jan. 10) session, Gunawardena stated that this is a ‘huge victory’ for the community of retirees.

“We faced a financial crisis regarding the payment of retirement gratuity which has been delayed for many years. As a result of the lengthy discussions between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Administration to ease the crisis, it was possible to begin the work to ease this in a systematic manner”, the PM said.

Furthermore, he mentioned that “accordingly, the release of financial allocations by the Ministry of Finance by December 2023 is a big victory for the pensioners.”
