Report with proposals for electricity tariff revision presented to Parliament

The report containing proposals and suggestions for the revision of electricity tariffs in January 2024 was tabled in the Parliament today (Jan. 10).

The relevant report compiled by the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy and Transport was presented to the Parliament by the committee’s chairman MP Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda.

Presenting the report to the Parliament, MP Kottegoda said: “It has been specially suggested to provide people with the benefit of the increase in hydropower generation”.

Moreover, several proposals including the introduction of a package system to settle electricity bills, removing the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on solar panels and providing relief to the manufacturing industry are also reportedly included in the report.
