Remains of late State Minister Sanath Nishantha taken to Puttalam

The remains of the late State Minister Sanath Nishantha has been taken to his private residence in Arachchikattuwa are of Puttalam this evening (Jan. 26).
Meanwhile, many politicians representing both ruling party and the opposition including President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Former Presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa paid their final respects to the late State Minister at Jayaratne Funeral Parlour in Borella last night and this morning, and offered their condolences to the bereaved family members.
The final rites of the late State Minister Sanath Nishantha are scheduled to be performed on Sunday (Jan. 28), in the Arachchikattuwa area, according to family sources.
The police said the state minister’s vehicle had crashed against the roadside barrier before rear-ending a moving container truck in the early hours of Thursday.
Following the fatal collision that took place around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, three injured people including State Minister Nishantha had been rushed to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital in Ragama. But, two of them – the lawmaker and his security guard, a police constable named Jayakody – had succumbed to their injuries.
Born on 03 May 1975, Nishantha had commenced his political career in 1997 by contesting the local government elections. He was elected to the parliament from Puttalam District at the general elections held in 2015 and 2020.
Nishantha, 48, is survived by his wife Attorney-at-Law Chamari Perera, three daughters and a son.
