Sri Lankan hens have become too weak and are laying fewer eggs. The government is importing eggs while preaching of protecting local entrepreneurs, claimed United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya.
Addressing UNP organizers and party activists from the Kelaniya electorate, Mr. Jayasuriya said everybody in the party was aspiring for leadership. Those who work tirelessly for the party are being critisised, not the government. All have to unite to strengthen the party. They should desist from uttering one thin in Colombo and another in the villages, said Mr. Jayasuriya. Those who had earlier talked of democracy in the party have now crossed over to the government and are kneeling before President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he added.
Talkers and workers within the party should unite to take it forwards. Within a few weeks all problems within the UNP will be solved. At the next elections all those Pabas and babas will have to go home, said the UNP Deputy Leader. Those threatening to sit independently will have to sit with the party as it serves no purpose, he said.
The government is on a dictatorial path. While enjoying a two thirds majority in Parliament, it is afraid to hold a Local Government election for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) as it knows it can’t win. It is attempting to turn the CMC into an authority since it is scared of an election, claimed Karu Jayasuriya.
All party members have to stand united at this crucial moment, urged the UNP Deputy Leader.
