During the ongoing probe into Sri Lankan refugees illegally obtaining Indian passports, India’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials on Saturday arrested two Sri Lankan nationals and an Indian agent who provided the passports.
CID officials said that the foreign nationals — Varuniya Thiruvanavukkarasu and Sanjika — were arrested along with Priya Dharmalingam from Tamil Nadu.
“Priya acted as a mediator and facilitated 21 Sri Lankan nationals in obtaining Indian passports in connivance with passport agents,” police said.
The agency started probe in January.
So far, police has arrested 26 persons — 16 agents, 6 policemen, an employee of passport seva kendra and three Sri Lankan nationals.
