Grama Niladhari officer arrested on bribery charge

A Grama Niladhari Officer in the Heerassagala area of Kandy has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly accepting a bribe.
The Grama Niladhari officer has demanded a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a woman to resolve a land dispute and the woman has filed a complaint with the Bribery Commission in relation to the incident.
Accordingly, the suspect was arrested yesterday (25) by the Bribery Commission officers while soliciting the bribe from the woman in question.
The arrested Grama Niladhari officer has been ordered to be remanded until July 29 by the Kandy Court.
