Train services along the up-country railway line have been disrupted owing to the derailment of the ‘Podi Menike’ train near the Watawala Railway Station, the Nawalapitiya Railway Control Room said.

The accident took place today (28) at around 11.00 a.m. while the train was plying from Colombo Fort to Badulla.  The control room further stated that several wheels of the train’s front engine have derailed.

The work related to restoring the ‘Podi Menike’ train has already commenced, a spokesman said.
