One dead, 3 hospitalised as boat capsizes off Kayts

One person has drowned while another 3 individuals have been hospitalised after a boat capsized last night (02) near the Kurikadduwan Jetty, in Kayts.

Police stated that the incident had occurred when the boat capsized while transporting rocks to Nainathivu.

A total of 4 persons were onboard the boat at the time of the incident and one of them had drowned, said the police.

The other three persons were rescued by residents in the area and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The deceased is identified as a 42-year-old resident of the Punkudutivu area and, the body has been placed in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

Kayts Police is conducting further investigations related to the incident.
