Kandy-Matale road temporarily closed at Akurana due to fire

UPDATE: The section of A9 road which was temporarily closed due to a fire which had broken out in a shop at Akurana, has now been reopened, the police said.


The Kandy-Matale road (A9) has been temporarily closed at Akurana due to a fire that broke out in a shop at Akurana and has spread to several adjacent shops in the vicinity, according to police.

Accordingly, motorists are kindly advised to use alternate routes to avoid inconveniences.

It has been reported that the fire is still not under control. 

According to the police, the restaurant owners have stated that there are around 50 gas cylinders in the premises, complicating efforts to contain the blaze. 

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
