Over 1,400 drug suspects arrested as operation ‘Yukthiya’ 2nd phase continues

A total of 1,403 suspects have been arrested within 24 hours during the second phase of the “Yukthiya” Operation, which commenced yesterday (June 04). 

Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa stated that detention orders will be secured against 57 among them for further questioning. 

Among the arrested individuals are 1,340 male suspects and 63 female suspect, according to Sri Lanka Police.

Meanwhile, the authorities have seized 1.086 kg of heroin, 782.7g of ‘Ice’ (Crystal methamphetamine) and 3.74 kg of Cannabis during the operation.

In addition to that, 17 others are being investigated for the possession of illegal assets, and 24 suspects were sent to rehabilitation, the Police Spokesman said.

Among the 1,403 arrestees is one suspect who had open warrant against him for narcotics-related charges and 21 others who had open warrants against them for non-drug-related charges. 

Meanwhile, police have also arrested a suspect over juvenile crimes.
