Adjournment debate on time frame of Presidential Election

It has been decided in the Committee on Parliamentary Business, held today (10) under the chairmanship of the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, to hold an adjournment debate tomorrow (11) on holding the presidential election within the stipulated time according to the legal provisions. 

Accordingly, the adjournment debate is scheduled to be held according to the motion brought jointly by the leader of the National People’s Power (NPP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, on holding the presidential election during the period from 17th September to 16th October 2024 as required by the Constitution and other applicable laws.  

Thus, it has been decided to hold the debate from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm following the Questions for the Oral Answers session, the Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera said.

Also, it has been decided to debate the Animal Welfare Bill, which was scheduled to be debated tomorrow, on another day, the Secretary General of Parliament added.
