A Gazette notification has been issued bringing the Ministry of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms under the purview of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

This move comes following the recent resignation of Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe from his ministerial portfolios to contest the upcoming Presidential election.

The Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued today (Aug. 07) by the Secretary to President. Mr. Saman Ekanayake, by order of the President.

It states that the President, having consulted with the Prime Minister under Article 44 (3) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, has determined that the Ministerial Portfolio of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms should be in his charge.

On July 25, MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe officially announced that he would contest the upcoming Presidential Election while he stepped down from his ministerial position as the Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms on July 29.
