Minister calls for probe into ship fire at Colombo Port

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva has called on officials of the Ports Authority to launch an investigation regarding the fire that broke out on a ship anchored in the Colombo Port early this morning (11).

A sudden fire had broken out on board a ship anchored in the Colombo Port and the fire brigade of the port had managed to extinguish the flames.

The ship belonging to a shipping company in Geneva, Switzerland had arrived at the Colombo Port from Singapore.

According to the Ports Authority, 995 containers were scheduled to be unloaded from the ship in question while another 880 containers were to be loaded onto the ship.
