36 candidates place deposits for presidential election so far

The Elections Commission of Sri Lanka says that a total of 36 candidates have placed cash deposits so far for the 2024 Presidential Election.

This includes 19 candidates representing recognised political parties, 16 independent candidates who have been nominated by a voter and 01 from other political parties. 

The candidates who have placed deposits within today (13) include the leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP) and Presidential Candidate of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera, the presidential candidate of the People’s Struggle Movement (Jana Aragala Viyaparaya) Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage, Namal Rajapaksha of the ‘Samabima Party’ and independent candidate Chaminda Anuruddha.

The period for placing deposits for the 2024 Presidential Election is scheduled to end at 12 noon tomorrow (14).

The acceptance of nominations for the upcoming presidential election is scheduled to begin the day after tomorrow (15) from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

Police have announced that a special security program will be implemented in connection with the election secretariat in Rajagiriya on the day of the nomination acceptance.
