School teacher, Dy Principal arrested over alleged sexual abuse of student and cover-up

Police have arrested a school teacher over an alleged incident of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, and the female Deputy Principal of the school for attempting to cover up the incident.

Police Headquarters revealed the arrests were made following a thorough investigation launched into a complaint received through the police emergency hotline.

The minor girl had been sexually abused by a 51-year-old teacher at the school in the Mahawela area, where she was studying, and the girl had reportedly informed the school’s Deputy Principal regarding the incident.

However, the 49-year-old female Deputy Principal has allegedly instructed the victim to remain silent regarding the incident, police said.

Mahawela Police is conducting further investigation into the incident.
