Man arrested for killing mother-in-law, injuring wife and daughter

An individual has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother-in-law and causing serious injuries to his wife and daughter at Lewangama. 

Police said an investigation was launched after receiving a complaint regarding the incident, where a woman had been killed and two other females had been injured, which had occurred last evening (20) in the Lewangama area of the Galapitamada police division.

The deceased, a 55-year-old woman from Atalawatta, Lewangama, was reportedly involved in an argument with the suspect over a monetary dispute. 

The suspect had allegedly struck her on the head with a rock, causing severe injuries. She had later succumbed to injuries after being admitted to Karawanella Base Hospital.

Police investigation also revealed that the suspect had injured his wife and daughter with a sharp weapon during the altercation. 

The 44-year-old suspect has been arrested, and Galapitamada Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
