Court order issued over protests planned by student unions in Colombo

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has issued an order preventing Allied Health Sciences Students’ Union and the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) from holding protest marches, entering the Health Ministry, and inconveniencing the public in the area from 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. today (22).

This order has been issued following a request made by Maradana Police, based on intelligence received by police that the planned protest will cause inconvenience to the public and disrupt traffic movement along roads near the Health Ministry in Colombo, the Police Media Division said.

Accordingly, the Convenor of the Allied Health Sciences Students’ Union Tharushan Herath, Convenor of the IUSF Madhushan Chandrajith and others have been prohibited from gathering near the Ministry of Health, entering the Health Ministry premises and holding protest marches in a way that inconvenience the public from 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. today, as per the court order, police said.
