Two SLFP MPs decide to support President Ranil in presidential poll

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs Sarathi Dushmantha Mithrapala and Angajan Ramanathan have expressed their support for incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election.

MPs Dushmantha and Ramanathan were previously part of the SLFP’s faction led by former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Kegalle District MP Dushmantha Mithrapala and Jaffna District MP Angajan Ramanathan met President Wickremesinghe at his political office on Flower Road, Colombo this morning (23) and have pledged their support for his victory in the upcoming presidential election.

Ramanathan is the SLFP’s Senior Vice Chairman while Mithrapala is the former Acting General Secretary of the SLFP (Maithripala faction).

Later, addressing a special press briefing, they emphasized that the country needs a leader capable of delivering practical solutions to the ongoing economic crisis.

The MPs asserted that there is no room for political experiments and that, for the sake of the country’s future they are fully committed to ensuring the victory of President Wickremesinghe in this presidential election.

The MPs highlighted that under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, they have experienced a clean and principled political journey. 

MP Angajan Ramanathan, Senior Vice President of the SLFP, was first elected to the Northern Provincial Council in 2013. He entered Parliament for the first time in 2015 as a National List Member.

In the general election 2020, he contested from the Jaffna District under the SLFP and was reelected to Parliament. Currently, he serves as a Senior Vice President of the SLFP and holds the position of Deputy Chairperson of Committees in Parliament.

MP Sarathi Dushmantha Mitrhapala was first elected to Parliament from the Kegalle District in the 2015 parliamentary elections. He previously served as the acting General Secretary of the SLFP and is currently a member of the party’s central committee.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Chief of the Presidential Staff and Senior Adviser to the President on National Security Sagala Ratnayaka and former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara were also present at this moment.
