Two passengers arrested with smuggled goods worth Rs. 40 million at BIA

Two passengers who arrived from India and were in possession of goods, valued at around Rs. 40 million, which were illegally smuggled into the country have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this morning (26).

A team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the airport has seized these goods which included foreign liquor, various types of cigarettes, creams, vehicle spare parts, and surgical scissors.

The arrested suspects are residents of the Grandpass area and the illegally smuggled goods along with the two arrestees have been handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs for further investigation.
