CID allowed to detain custodian of court evidence room over missing heroin

The Colombo Chief Magistrate has allowed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to detain and interrogate the custodian in charge of the evidence room of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, who was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a large quantity of the heroin from the evidence room.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court had previously ordered the CID to investigate the disappearance of 12 kg of heroin, with an estimated value of Rs.240 million, from the court’s evidence storage facility.

Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate has granted permission to detain and interrogate the suspect based on a request made by the CID from the court.
