Colombo Security Conclave founding documents signed

India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit K. Doval visited Colombo from August 29-30, 2024, for the signing of the Founding Documents of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC).

Following discussions at the 6th NSA-level meeting of the CSC held in December 2023 in Mauritius, the Charter and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the CSC Secretariat were signed in Colombo on August 30, 2024, by India, Maldives, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka, according to the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Ajit Doval highlighted the significance of the Founding Documents in further bolstering CSC’s pivotal role in ensuring regional security and stability.

Emphasizing CSC’s role in maintaining sustained engagement across diverse pillars of cooperation, he stressed the importance of collective efforts in addressing traditional, non-traditional, and emerging hybrid challenges in the Indian Ocean Region, the Indian High Commission added.

During his visit to Colombo, Ajit Doval called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

He met with his counterparts from CSC member countries, including the National Security Adviser of Sri Lanka, Sagala Ratnayaka, and the National Security Advisor of the Maldives, Ibrahim Latheef.

While in Colombo, Ajit Doval interacted with the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Sajith Premadasa, Member of Parliament and Leader of National People’s Power (NPP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as well as other political leaders and representatives of various political parties, including those from the North, East, and upcountry regions.
