Passenger arrested with smuggled cigarettes at BIA

A person who was in possession of a large stock of cigarettes illegally brought into the country has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this morning (01).

Officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the BIA have arrested the suspected passenger who had arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai.

The arrested suspect has been identified as a 30-year-old resident of Panadura, according to police.

Police said that a total of 20,000 sticks of foreign cigarettes, illegally smuggled into the country, were seized and the Police Narcotics Bureau at the BIA is conducting further investigation into the incident.
