Colombo HC sentences man to life in prison for heroin possession

The Colombo High Court has sentenced a 59-year-old individual to life imprisonment for the possession of 6.61 grams of heroin.
The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja when the case was taken up for consideration today (03).
In 2021, the accused was arrested during a raid in the Badowita area of the Mount Lavinia police division while in possession of 6.61 grams of heroin, following which the Attorney General filed a case before the Colombo High Court.
After a lengthy trial, Judge Ranaraja stated that the charges brought by the prosecution against the accused had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
