Court postpones financial fraud plaint against Namal Rajapaksa

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has postponed the hearing of a plaint filed against the presidential candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Namal Rajapaksa and several others over an alleged financial fraud.

Accordingly, when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today (05), it was ordered to be recalled for hearing on February 13, 2025.

This plaint was filed during the “Good Governance” government over an alleged incident of Namal Rajapaksa investing an amount of Rs 15 million of ill-gotten funds in the HelloCorp (Pvt.) Ltd., while serving as an MP.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which is probing the matter had informed the court that all the excerpts related to the investigation have been forwarded to the Attorney General seeking his advice and that they are yet to receive AG’s advice regarding the matter.

Later, the magistrate moved the hearing to 13 February 2025, and ordered that the progress of the investigations be reported to the court on that date.
