The presidential candidate of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance, entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera emphasized that Sri Lanka’s youth were compelled to take to the streets and protest for change as a direct result of the failures of the country’s politicians.

He made this statement during a rally held in Embilipitiya, as part of a ‘Dilith Gamata’ constituency meetings.

“Now there must be enough policy statements to fill up your houses. They were given once every five years. So, are we not going to move forward? Is there no way?” Jayaweera questioned, highlighting the redundancy of promises without action.

He further commented on the reasons behind the youth-led uprisings, acknowledging both internal and external factors. “This is why the youth of Sri Lanka took to the streets demanding a change. It cannot be said that there was no foreign influence. But these children...The selfish politicians in this country stirred them up.”

Furthermore, Jayaweera urged for a new leadership, stating “That’s what I’m saying... if you want a change, you have to have a different person. You should feel that change”
