‘The more they import, the better their commission’ – Anura Kumara

The Presidential Candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that the NPP would establish a government that truly supports the people of Sri Lanka.
He expressed this while speaking at a public rally in Thambuttegama on Monday (09).
“We are not coming to take what you have. We are coming to increase what you have. If you have one cow, we will help you to make a herd. If you are cultivating an acre, we will assist you in expanding it to two or three acres. If you own only one shop, we will help you to open shops in several cities. If you are only doing business in Sri Lanka, we’ll help you expand overseas. That’s why we are coming,” said the NPP’s presidential candidate.
He also criticized the current administration and former rulers of the country for enriching themselves while putting the country in poverty.
“They came to make the country poor and make themselves rich. They don’t want to produce but to import. The more they import, the better the commission. When importing eggs from India, the commission is Rs. 80 million. When 10 million eggs are imported, the commission is Rs. 80 million,” he claimed.
According to Dissanayake, officials are more interested in profiting from imports rather than developing domestic industries.
“The minister does not care if the poultry industry is developed. It will be good for the minister if eggs are imported. Kantale and Higurana (sugar factories) were closed and sugar was imported. The tax was adjusted for Rs. 15 billion. The more things are imported, the more profitable it is to them,” said the NPP presidential candidate.
He further alleged that the tax fraud through the imported coconut oil is Rs. 3.5 billion.
“They never thought to build, but to bring. But we are ready to build everything that can be built in the country. Work collaboratively. We are not coming to put petrol sheds, bars and engage in sand mining. We come to do business. You start producing and doing business. We will support them all.”
