A Police Sergeant attached to the Pothuhera Police Station has been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) while accepting a bribe from an individual.

The commission said that a bribe of Rs. 5,000 was solicited by the police officer to provide a police report for a person, who has a pending court case related to illicit liquor, while excluding information related to that.

According to a complaint filed with the Bribery Commission regarding this, the suspected Police Sergeant was arrested while accepting the bribe in front of the Pothuhera Police Station.

The suspect is expected to be produced before the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court.
