Businessman shot dead in Hanwella

A person has reportedly died following a shooting incident in the Neluwattuduwa area in Hanwella today.

Accordingly, a 55-year-old businessman has been gunned down inside his house this evening by an unidentified gunman, police said.

The victim had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Avissawella Hospital in critical condition. 

The shooting had taken place at around 8.15 p.m. today (30), according to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa.

Police report that the deceased is a 55-year-old businessman from Neluwattuduwa, and that the shooting occurred while he was at home.

Authorities suspect that the shooting was carried out using a T56 assault rifle.

The body has been placed in the mortuary of the Avissawella Hospital.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been revealed, and Hanwella Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the suspects.
