122 independent groups place deposits for 2024 General Election

A total of 122 independent groups have placed deposits to contest the 2024 General Election as of yesterday (04), according to the Election Commission.

The Commission further confirmed that 36 independent groups had placed their deposits within yesterday alone.

Deposits have been made for 21 out of the 22 electoral districts, with the exception of the Matale district, where no deposits had been placed as of yesterday, said the Commission.

The Janasetha Peramuna Party has submitted its nominations for the Jaffna and Wanni districts. Additionally, three independent groups submitted their nominations yesterday.

The acceptance of nominations for the 2024 General Election commenced on October 4 and will continue until 12 noon on October 11, 2024.
