Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya stated that the Sri Lanka Police were able to build a positive image in society through their conduct during the recent presidential election.

Speaking at a function in Kalkudah yesterday (05), Weerasooriya emphasized, “The most challenging period following a political transition is often post-election violence. However, after this election, I witnessed the most peaceful post-election period during my service. This is a new culture, and we must continue to uphold it, as it greatly benefits the Sri Lanka Police.”

He also expressed gratitude to the political authorities for facilitating such an environment, noting that this election demonstrated the highest efficiency of the police.

“The police were able to recover from past setbacks and restore a positive image, which has been praised both locally and internationally,” he added.
