2024 General Election: Accepting postal voting applications ends today

The accepting of postal voting applications for the 2024 General Election is set to conclude at midnight today (10).

Accordingly, all the public service officials except those who have been exempted from election duties must submit their postal voting applications. The Election Commission emphasized that failure to apply for postal votes or submitting defective applications will not be considered a reason to exempt officials from election duties.

Meanwhile, placing deposits for independent groups related to the upcoming General Election is scheduled to end at 12 noon today.

Apart from the recognized political parties, all independent groups must place deposits for the General Election.

Accordingly, the Election Commission stated that a total of 293 independent groups have placed deposits to contest the 2024 General Election as of yesterday (09) , with the highest number of 42 Independent groups from the Digamadulla Electoral District.

The Election Commission stated that nomination papers can be submitted at District Secretariats across the island until 12 noon tomorrow (11). Following the submission of nominations, there will be a one-and-a-half-hour for filing objections, according to the commission.
