Mattakkuliya Police have arrested a 50-year-old man for attempting to offer a bribe to the Acting Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Mattakkuliya Police Station.

The incident occurred yesterday (16) when the suspect made a phone call to the Acting OIC, requesting permission to engage in drug dealing within the police area.

He had also offered to pay a monthly bribe of Rs. 100,000 in exchange for this opportunity.

Accordingly, the Acting OIC reported this to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Following this, the suspect was invited to the police station, where CIABOC officials arrested him as he attempted to hand over Rs. 50,000 as a bribe.

The suspect is a resident of the Mattakkuliya area.
