Sri Lanka Customs officers have arrested a Sri Lankan passenger arriving from Malaysia while in possession of over 10 kilograms of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine), estimated to be worth around Rs. 250 million, at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

Customs officers have discovered approximately 10.197 kilograms of ‘Ice’ drugs hidden inside tea packets in the luggage of the passenger, who had arrived at BIA from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, onboard flight MH 179, at around 11.30 p.m. last night (18).

The suspect had attempted to exit through the green channel without declaring the items to customs.

The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs. 250 million, according to Sri Lanka Customs.

The passenger, a 35-year-old resident of Dematagoda, along with the drugs consignment, have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigation.
