SLBFE warns job seekers of fraudulent calls demanding payments

October 22, 2024   08:50 am

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has clarified that it is not associated with any calls informing those seeking employment in Israel to make additional payments.

Additional General Manager of International Affairs of the SLBFE Gamini Senarath Yapa stated that job candidates who have already settled their payments do not need to proceed with any additional payments.

The SLBEF received multiple complaints yesterday (21) regarding a person making phone calls and claiming that those seeking employment in Israel must pay a sum of Rs.14,700.

Gamini Senarath Yapa explained that all candidates preparing to work in Israel’s agricultural sector have already settled their payments with the SLBEF.

“Someone has fraudulently sent a message asking them to repay an amount of Rs.14,700. He has introduced himself as an official of the SLBEF. The bureau has not released such information in any way. About 123 people are set to leave for these jobs. The other thing is that the person who gave this call mentioned depositing money into a bank account. It is hereby notified that the Bureau will not engage in such activities,” said the Additional General Manager of International Affairs of the SLBFE.

If anyone encounters such a situation, they are urged to contact the SLBFE at the provided hotline, 1989.
