Six Ruhuna University students face temporary suspension
Six students of the Ruhuna University who were suspected to be involved in the assault on the Vice Chancellor have been temporarily suspended with effect from Monday (October 25) as a disciplinary measure, an university official said.
The suspension followed a meeting of the University’s Administrative Board where Prof. Susirith Mendis is the chairman.
The Board discussed the reasons that led to the incident last Wednesday where Prof. Mendis was allegedly assaulted by some students. However, since Prof. Mendis was directly involved in the incident, he had explained the details and left the meeting to enable the Board to take a decision and handing over the responsibility to Prof. W.G.D Dharmaratne.
The Board had taken two decisions, one being to temporarily suspend the six students and the other to appoint a three member disciplinary committee to fully probe the the incident.
