Two dead after vehicle swept away by strong currents at Thummodara Canal

A vehicle attempting to cross the Thummodara Canal on the Eswatta Manakada Road in the Kosgama police division was swept away by strong water currents last evening.

According to police, the vehicle was carried approximately 50 meters downstream. At the time of the incident, four individuals, including the driver, were in the double cab and two of them had drowned last evening (05).

The deceased, aged 27 and 69, were residents of Balalkotuwa and Kiribathgoda. Their bodies have been placed in the mortuary at Avissawella Hospital.

Kosgama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
