Minister Vijitha Herath assumes duties at Foreign Ministry

The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, assumed duties at the Foreign Ministry today (18). 

 

Senior officials of the Ministry were present on the occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

 

As a Member of Parliament, Minister Herath has represented the Gampaha District since 2000. At the recently concluded General election, he was re-elected, obtaining the highest ever number of preferential votes in Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary election history.

 

He had also previously served as the Minister of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage from 2004 - 2005, and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the interim government following the election of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as President on 22 September 2024.

 

Minister Herath holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kelaniya.
