SJB appoints committee for discussions to work together with UNP

The Working Committee of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has approved a proposal for discussions to work together with the United National Party (UNP).

Accordingly, a five-member committee, headed by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, has been appointed for the discussions.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters outside the party’s head office following the Working Committee meeting this evening (16), SJB leader and Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said they discussed on the need to stand up against the government’s repression of the people and that in addition, discussions were held on how to face the upcoming Local Government Elections.

He also said that they are prepared for the upcoming Local Government Elections and that they will be discussing with all opposition political parties ahead of the LG polls.

On November 24, Gampaha District SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna said that the SJB is ready to join together with the UNP, if former President Ranil Wickremesinghe will allow Sajith Premadasa to take over the leadership.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo, MP Rajakaruna had expressed that they intend to hold discussions after the UNP leader returns to the island.

Furthermore, the Gampaha District MP had called on all right-wing political forces to join hands with the SJB.
