CID brings back 3 notorious wanted criminals from Dubai

Three notorious wanted Sri Lankan criminals with Interpol Red Notice, including a former police Sub-Inspector (SI) accused of aiding and abetting the killing of five people in Beliatta, have been repatriated to the island from Dubai this morning (07).

 

Accordingly, the repatriated criminal figures including Ranmuni Mahesh Hemantha Silva, wanted over the killing of five persons in Beliatta in 2024, ‘Rotumba Upali’ accused of murders in Akuressa, and Pradeep Sandaruwan, alias ‘Kollonnawe Chandana,’ according to Sri Lanka Police.

 

The suspects, who were arrested in Dubai, were escorted to Sri Lanka by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Following a notification by Sri Lanka Police, Interpol had issued ‘Red Notice’ for the arrest of the suspects in question.

 

Sri Lanka Police has released the following details of the suspects and the crimes they are suspected to have been involved in:

 

Ranmuni Mahesh Hemantha Silva (42)

 

He is wanted in connection with the shooting and killing of five people who were traveling in a Defender vehicle in the Kahawatta area on the Beliatta-Walasmulla road in the Beliatta Police Division on January 22, 2024. An open warrant has been issued against him by the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court.

 

Pradeep Sandaruwan alias Chandana (40)

 

He is a suspect wanted for the attempted murder of a person by shooting and injuring them in the Wellampitiya Police Division on June 18, 2023. An open warrant has been issued against him by the Aluthkade No. 02 Magistrate’s Court.

 

Additionally, he is linked to multiple other crimes in the Wellampitiya Police Division, including:

 

January 31, 2022 – Attempted murder by shooting and injuring a person.
June 30, 2021 – Attempted murder by shooting and injuring a person.
June 5, 2023 – Attempted murder by shooting and injuring a person.
June 5, 2023 – Attempted murder by shooting a person.
February 15, 2023 – Assaulting a person and causing damages to property.

 

Nadakandage Upali alias ‘Rotumba Upali’ (39)

 

He is a suspect wanted for the murder of a person in the Akuressa Police Division on October 1, 2008, with an open warrant issued against him by the Matara High Court.

 

He is also linked to the following crimes:

 

April 16, 2008 – A shooting incident in the Mawarala Police Division, for which a case is pending in the Matara Magistrate’s Court.
Abduction and rape of a 15-year-old girl from legal custody in the Urubokka Police Division, with a case pending in the Matara High Court.
