LG Election: 35 schools to remain closed on May 7

A number of schools will remain closed on Wednesday (May 7) due to the 2025 Local Government (LG) Election, the Ministry of Education has announced.

 

The Education Ministry said all schools across the island will remain closed today (05) and tomorrow (06) due to the LG election.

 

Additionally, 35 schools will remain closed on Wednesday (07) as well.

 

Accordingly, the following schools will reopen on Thursday (08), the Education Ministry said. 

 

1. Royal College, Colombo

 

2. Sri Sanghabodhi Central College, Nittambuwa

 

3. Siyane National College of Education, Veyangoda

 

4. Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Paththalagedara, Veyangoda

 

5. Tissa Central College, Kalutara North

 

6. Musaeus Vidyalaya, Kalutara

 

7. Velapura Vidyalaya, Kalutara

 

8. St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy

 

9. St. Sylvester’s Primary School, Kandy

 

10. Sri Sumangala College, Kandy

 

11. Christ Church College, Matale

 

12. Pakkiyam National College, Matale

 

13. Gamini National School, Nuwara Eliya

 

14. Southlands College, Galle

 

15. St. Servatius’ College, Matara

 

16. Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Matara

 

17. Jaffna Central College
