New Zealand’s late flourish helped by Mitchell Hay put 43 runs off the last 3 overs and allowed New Zealand to end up with 186 on the board. New Zealand didn’t have the best start, losing Rachin Ravindra early in the third over.
However, Tim Robinson and Mark Chapman steadied the innings with a solid 69-run partnership. Robinson fell while trying to up the ante, and Glenn Phillips came in with a brief but impactful cameo, scoring 23 runs quickly before getting out.
Mark Chapman did both boundary-hitting and smart strike rotation in his innings to ensure the momentum stayed alive during the middle overs. Mitchell Hay finished the innings on high for his team by making a quick-fire 41 in just 19 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours.
For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga was the star with the ball, claiming two important wickets. Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara also chipped in a wicket each, helping Sri Lanka keep the pressure on.
