 Launches a series of courses educating budding surgeons

Markss Healthcare (Markss HLC) one of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in Sri Lanka partnered with the Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons to conduct skill building workshops for the up and coming surgeons under the “MARKSS Wellness Campaign”. The inaugural workshop under this partnership was held recently at the Sri Jayawardenapura University Skills Lab that saw the participation of 28 trainee doctors who were awarded with certificates of accreditation.


The workshop is accredited by the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine and the Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons. An expert panel of urological surgeons of exceptional international repute consisting Dr. P.M Thompson, Dr. Wei Wang, Prof. Gang Zhu (Overseas Faculty) along with Prof. Neville Perera, Dr. Srinath Chandrasekara, Dr. K.L Fernando and Dr. Ajith Malalasekera graced the occasion sharing their expertise. The course saw top level surgeons delivering one on one hands-on training sessions to the trainee surgeons.


Speaking on the initiative Director Medical of Markss HLC, Dr. S. Makalanda, “We treat this initiative as a service for our nation; Markss Wellness Campaign touched the trainee Urological Surgeons through this novel knowledge sharing project. We will continue to enhance extensive knowledge and the best practices in the future”.


An eminent guest panelist, “This course was made extra special as all these top level surgeons made them-selves available throughout the sessions to tutor the trainee surgeons one on one basis. They proved not only to be great teachers but also phenomenal mentors for the up and coming surgeons. The work shop was based on several surgical techniques for urinary system related to repairing damaged and diseased ureters. These procedures are being used in great many occasions with unprecedented success in the hands of the present day surgeons. Further training on procedures such as these will ensure continued success in the hands of future surgeons”.

The year of 2010 marked a significant leap forward for MARKSS as in with the tying up with DEMITECH USA. This new association took its longstanding relationship with surgeons to the next level. It was a call of duty for Markss HLC to support the surgeons’ continuous medical education under “Markss Wellness” campaign.
