The Media Law Forum (MLF) announced the official relaunch of its Emergency Legal Hotline dedicated specifically to environmental journalists in Sri Lanka.

“This relaunch underscores the Forum’s commitment to providing rapid, reliable, and accessible legal assistance to journalists covering environmental issues, who often face unique legal challenges and threats while performing their vital role in society,” it said.

The hotline, available 24/7 in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, is a crucial resource for journalists encountering legal intimidation, harassment, or other forms of pressure while reporting on environmental matters. The relaunch aims to raise awareness about the hotline, enhance its visibility among media professionals, and reinforce the Media Law Forum’s broader efforts to protect press freedom.

Key Highlights of the Relaunch:

• Dedicated Support for Environmental Journalists: The hotline prioritizes journalists covering environmental topics, ensuring specialized legal advice and interventions tailored to the unique challenges in this field.

• 24/7 Multilingual Assistance: Journalists can access immediate legal guidance in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, guaranteeing that language barriers do not impede urgent support.

• Rapid Legal and Judicial Interventions: The Forum will actively engage in legal and judicial processes to protect journalists facing threats, including court representation, advice, and advocacy where necessary.

• Strengthening Press Freedom: By providing continuous support, the Media Law Forum ensures environmental journalists can report freely and safely, fostering transparency and accountability in environmental governance.
